Return here early in 2006 for an in-depth comment on the City Budget 2006 and the process leading to it in December 2005.

2006 Smart Growth Budget Report
“Growth must pay for growth” states watchdog Smart Growth group. “City can no longer can afford to subsidize sprawl.” In analysing the proposed budget the group spotted new road costs that will lead to a $33M deficit by 2008 and new surburban water pumping facilities being paid out of general tax revenue, not development charges. Alt.Budget
In 2004 the Alternative Budget Group brought a number of concerned citizens together to participate in a budget analysis and recommendations. FINAL REPORT (pdf 87k)

Property Tax Assessment Study and Proposal. (April 2006) Working with the Capital Ward Council we presented this proposal for fair property tax assessment to the Ontario government.  more>>
