Successes

Bank Street Reconstruction and Rezoning
With Bank Street reconstruction completed, we now have a much more pedestrian-Folk hall of famefriendly environment between the bridges in Old Ottawa South. Wider sidewalks, pedestrian-level lighting, corner bulbouts, quality bike racks, and sidewalk benches make the area safer and more pleasing to the eye. Re-zoning Bank Street to encourage pedestrian-oriented development is yet another step towards improving quality of life in the neighbourhood. The "mainstreet" potential of Bank between the bridges is now almost unparalleled in our city. More pedestrian and small-business friendly streetscapes will create the foundation for our neighborhood’s vibrancy for generations to come.

I will endeavour to make Bank Street’s reconstruction and rezoning a template for future city infrastructure projects.

Windsor Park Docks
The placement of new boat docks marks another step in the renewal of the Rideau River as a prime recreation resource for the ward and the city. We've got small docks put in at Windsor and Brewer parks where you can now launch canoes, kayaks, and other small boats on to this beautiful stretch of river.

Challenges

Renovating the Old Firehall
Building on the initiative the community has already shown in raising $75,000 __more? for the project, we need to ensure that the Old Firehall is renovated and enlarged so that it can continue to function as the hub of community activity in Old Ottawa South. I will work to secure funding to renovate the Old Firehall.

Traffic Calming for Riverdale and Sunnyside
Now that the major digging is done, it’s time to tackle the speed problems on the neighborhood’s key through routes—Riverdale and Sunnyside. I will seek a streetscaping study aimed at improving the environments of both streets. In particular, I will recommend that the community consider removing one parking lane on Riverdale to create green buffers on either side of the road, protecting wider, flat sidewalks.

Windsor Park con't
As a kid I remember swimming at Windsor park and Brewer Park. Working with the city I want to reduce polluted storm water runoff from Sawmilll Creek and hopefully we will, someday, be able to re-open Brewer and Brighton Beaches, places I swam at as a kid. I would also like to see enhanced landscaping in Windsor Park. The Manitoba maples should be weeded out from the shoreline and a strategy developed with the city forester to redesign and reforest untended areas of the park.
